Autoptimize’s cache slowing the website

    Hello there,

    First let me tell you: Good job for your plugin, I love it !

    But, I have a problem, I tried to install the plugin for a friend and according to Google this ressource’s “/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/css/autoptimize_a238532feb70b660ba79e942b350b93a.css” size is 177,8 KB and slows down his website (2 580 ms)

    Same for this one “/wp-content/cache/autoptimize/css/autoptimize_single_4b1ac2038b741407eb8ee36ee8ee64eb.css” (3,6 KB – 630 ms)

    As I’m not an expert in the cache field, can you explain me how to remove this (or even defer) so I can improve the loading speed please?

    Last but not least, I saw that you had a part for “/wp-includes/js/jquery/jquery.js” (32,7 KB – 930 ms) in your FAQ, when I tried to defer this, the site couldn’t load again. Do you have an advice?

    Hey Steve;
    The unused CSS (and JS) is being reported as being Autoptimize’s, but AO merely aggregates all the code provided by your theme & plugins, so if you (really) want to tackle “remove unused CSS” (or JS) then you should look into your theme & plugins (you might be able to get some improvement using e.g. “plugin organizer” to only allow plugins to work on specific pages).

    Moreover the unused CSS will likely be different for different pages (or parts of your site), so that would lead to different autoptimized CSS-files being loaded on different pages.

    Re. jquery: afraid it simply sometimes have to stay as is, some themes/ plugins require it early.

    Hello Frank,

    Thank you for your answer. So if I understood you correctly, I’ll have to change the CSS-files for each pages? And except installing the plugin you recommanded, you said I should look the code but what am I looking for? This specific ressource? And then delete it?

    The thing is, my website uses the exact same theme, the exact same plugins and the same configuration but the other one (the one I told you about earlier) is significantly slower and I can’t understand why (even with a CDN). So I tested the website with Google PageSpeed and I saw these informations so if I can reduce a little bit the loading time, it would be better for my friend.

    I think the gist of it is; removing unused CSS or JS is pretty much impossible in WordPress and the gains GPSI claims are possible are merely theoretical.
