Hi @syzygist,
Thanks for reaching out. I’m sorry for the trouble here.
Automatic updates shouldn’t happen unless enabled at Insights » Settings » Advanced. I tried to recreate the issue on a test site with the Automatic Updates setting is set to None. I was able to see the “There is a new version of Google Analytics for WordPress by MonsterInsights available” notification, instead of the older version of MonsterInsights automatically updating to the latest version.
If you’re able to re-create the issue within your environment, would you be able to reach out to us at https://www.monsterinsights.com/get-help/ so we can take a look at things directly?
Thank you.
I have the plugin installed on sites on two hosts – it only self-updated on one. I’ll keep an eye on that one and let you know if it happens again.
However that turns out, I don’t think it’s appropriate to release updates that include automatic enablement of auto-update (or in any other way overrides settings previously chosen by the user).
Hi @syzygist,
If you’ve chosen to disable auto-updates, our plugin will respect that setting. Releases aren’t designed to change user preferences, however, if you’re experiencing something unusual, we’re happy to investigate it further and fix it.
Thank you.
Hi @syzygist,
I’m going to go ahead and close this thread for now since it’s been some time, but if you’d like for us to assist further, please feel welcome to continue the conversation.
Thanks!
It is continuing to auto-update, on 5/6/25 to 9.5.2, on 5/14/ to 9.5.3, on 6/17/25 to 9.6.0, and on 6/26/25 (today) to 9.6.1. Automatic Updates have been set to none in the plugin interface since March, and the Installed Plugins list shows “Auto-Updates disabled.” Is there some other setting that could nullify this?? No other plugins with auto-update turned off are self-updating.
Hi @syzygist,
We don’t currently have other reports of a similar issue, but we’re happy to investigate it further if you’re able to reach out to us directly at https://www.monsterinsights.com/get-help/
Thank you!
Never mind, we’ve decided to go with a different plugin.
