    Hi

Thank you for the plugin! Is it possible to change the plugin in a way, that it doesn’t change the filename at all? Keep the name from the uploaded image as it is. In the moment it adds a “-1” to the filename, what is not really beautiful if you take care of clear file names.

If you can change this fast, it would be great. I would even send you some bucks, by Paypal, for example… 😉

Greetings and thank you for your help

    Kind regards from Switzerland

    Hi @agneskarikaturen,

A -1 is likely being added to your filename because an image with the same name already exists in the site’s uploads directory. I would try renaming the image’s filename and re-upload.

This plugin performs no changes to filenames directly. It only disables the new scaling behavior introduced in WordPress 5.3, which prevents -scaled images from being generated.

I am going to mark this as resolved because I have been unable to reproduce this issue without uploading an image that has a duplicate name. If the issue still occurs after you have confirmed you are uploading an image with a unique filename, feel free to reopen with more details.

    Dear Jonathan

I am sorry for my mistake. First I thought the same like you and and searched the media library for a file with the same name. But I couldnt find one.

I checked again now and found out, that your plugin adds a “-1” extension, if there is a file with the word press made extension “-scaled”, so actually the resized version we want to avoid with your plugin. I deleted the xxx-scaled.jpg now and uploaded the file again, now this time the namechange didn’t happen anymore. But as long as I kept the xxx-scaled.jpg file, it happend, even if the uploaded file name was just xxx, without the term “-scaled”, that is added by wordpress.

Filename from existing file on server:
    virus-corona-weltkugel-krank-globus-grinsen-zeichnung-cartoon-clipart-comic-cartoon-agnes-karikaturen-print-scaled.jpg

    Filename from uploaded file:
    virus-corona-weltkugel-krank-globus-grinsen-zeichnung-cartoon-clipart-comic-cartoon-agnes-karikaturen-print.jpg

The uploaded file got the name:
    Filename from uploaded file:
    virus-corona-weltkugel-krank-globus-grinsen-zeichnung-cartoon-clipart-comic-cartoon-agnes-karikaturen-print-1.jpg

The “issue” stopped after I deleted:
    virus-corona-weltkugel-krank-globus-grinsen-zeichnung-cartoon-clipart-comic-cartoon-agnes-karikaturen-print-scaled.jpg

So in this view the topic is not completely useless. 😉 But resolved 🙂

Thank you very much for your help and your work.

    Kind regards from Switzerland
