How can I change background and text colours? Black and white colours do not correspond with my site colour scheme.

Hi,
This plugin adds as little CSS as possible to your site.
Can you share the link to your website? Maybe some CSS is interfering.

Ah, I understand the why 🙂

You can go to Dashboard > Guestbook > Settings > Reading-tab and unselect the styling for admin entries.
If you do want a special styling for admin entries, let me know.
