backing up on hosting

Hi, can u advise on following: I seem to be getting a total file back up on my hosting as picked up in my cpanel disk usage recently( public_html/wp-content/backups) and this was not occurring previously.

Has there been a change in the settings with new releases? Or perhaps a change was made inadvertently by a user. Or how do I turn that option off in settings – I could not find any ref to this.

I make manual backup of database and filesystem each time I edit, and download to external drive, and now have to go to my cpanel and remove the extra back ups as they are taking up all my allocated space. Thanks
