Backup, fails
-
Hi, I have tried many times this week to backup my blog, however nothing seems to happen. Am I doing something wrong? I have tried going into a page from the Dashboard and through the web into the site. Nothing seems to happen
I have checked the S3 button and that seems to be ok
What’s to do?
best regards Sharon

If you’re running the latest version, then in the UpdraftPlus control panel there’s a line that shows the latest log line. What does it say? And secondly, can you see a “Download log file” link? If so, download it and paste it all in here.
David
Hi, Thanks for help. Yes running latest being 1.2.43
I have just checked Amazon S3 to see what’s in there and hey they have files dated from the 8th to today’s date. However, I have no way of knowing that a backup has been successful without going to Amazon. My downloaded files are dated 6th and my 2 stored backups are 6th and 8th
Not sure about latest log line will check
SharonIf your backups are successfully arriving in S3 then I don’t need to see the log file, as we already know it’s working.
“However, I have no way of knowing that a backup has been successful without going to Amazon.” – have you seen the option titled “Email” accompanied by the text “Enter an address here to have a report sent (and the whole backup, if you choose) to it.” ?
David
I think it has an address, but I will go back and check
SharonIf it does have an address, then you need to find the log file. Go to the bottom of the log file, and look to see if it says that an email was being sent. If it was, then you need to talk to your web hosting people, show them the log file, and ask them what happened to the email.
David
Yes it does have my email address
regardsas stated log file is dated the 6th as is asis download backups
SharonIf you do this…
1) Make sure you have upgraded to the latest version of UpdraftPlus (go to the “Updates” page in your WordPress install
2) Visit UpdraftPlus’s page and press “Backup Now”
3) Wait 10 seconds, then visit any page on your website
4) Return to the UpdraftPlus page, and look at the “Last log line” line that is near the top of the page… then you should see various messages run by, showing the backup running. Do you?
this is still showinf=g this message from the 6th
S3 Error: Failed to create bucket ashar-art-files. Check your permissions and credentials IN REDlast backup log message = A backup run has been scheduled (Jan 21 18:22:44)
last backup is still showing = S3 Error: Failed to create bucket ashar-art-files. Check your permissions and credentials
Well, that’s the problem. Your Amazon S3 credentials (i.e. username/password) aren’t sufficient to make that bucket. Go to your Amazon console and check them out.
Sorry – I got confused. You said that there are backups there since the 6th, but that error still shows?
If so, then you need to copy and paste in the most recent log file, so that I can take a look.
no that was from the 6th Jan when yes there was a problem. I NOW have files in s3 showing all the dates I have tun a backup
the UpdraftPlus settings show a different story
as stated I ran the Test S3 Settings button and no problem
??not sure that was clear
s3 seems to be up to date
UpdraftPlus seems to be stuck at failed backup on the 6th
hope that is clearer
regards sharonIt sounds like it’s backing up fine, but for some reason aborts AFTER uploading to Amazon S3 but BEFORE sending you the email, and clearing the previous error status.
To investigate further I need you to send me a log file. You need to FTP into your wp-content/updraft directory, and look for the most recent file with a name beginning with “log.”. If you’re not familiar/comfortable with FTP, then point your web hosting company to this thread, and ask them to do it. Once you’ve got the log file, copy-and-paste it into this thread.
