Backup process not completed ….

Hello,
I just updated the Backup settings by deactivating backup for one of my folders (test website) and activating backup on the live website.
I selected Daily Backup and since yesterday it is still running – does not show error prompt / or failed message.Since I did not receive the Daily backup email with the link to download, which I did for my test site, I logged in to check.
It shows file size as 139 Gb – which should not be the case?Please could you assist and solving this issue?
I see newer versions but have not been prompted in the Plugins list to upgrade. How can this be achieved. Maybe its the version issue?
