Backup to remote storage

We are brand new to this plug in and just activated it today. I went to perform my first backup. First I went to Settings and elected FTP. I entered the settings and path and hit the test FTP button- it connected and said everything appeared to be working fine. Then I went back to the main “Current Status” tab and hit the “backup” button. It said it successfully performed the backup, but I wanted to make sure my files were indeed there. So I went in via FTP to my site and looked in the directory that I entered in the Settings tab, but there was nothing in the folder. Does that mean it didn’t work or…?
