i’ve searched around, and found no information on how would one keep a local backup of everything (db, files) from a blog, hosted on wordpress.com.

wordpress.com is pretty much devoid of any useful content. all other forum posts and articles only talk about a locally hosted wordpress instance (or at best one where plugins could be installed), but none of that applies to wordpress.com hosted stuff.

so how could i have a backup of everything (both for free and paid blogs) that i could easily run into a locally hosted wordpress, in case the parent company turns evil or something else happens ?

Are you considering setting up WordPress locally using a local web server?

oh, no – the question was about wordpress.com hosted one.
Ravi, thanks – i didn’t notice that there are separate forums for hosted/downloadable and got confused. thanks for clearing that up, will head there 🙂

a bit more on-topic, if somebody has successfully migrated from a wordpress.com hosted instance into a locally hosted one, i’d be interested in hearing about that experience.

for the record, wordpress.com-specific backup topic moved to https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/backup-a-wordpresscom-hosted-site

I think that effectively closes this topic for now.
