Sorry to hear that your website backups are not completing as expected!
A number of our users reported similar issues with creating backups on DreamHost servers. We found that there was a conflict with the FastCGI configuration on some of their servers and backups created with either the PCL Zip or Zip Archive compressors.
Because of this, we added System Zip to the list of available compressors in Total Upkeep and switching the Backup Process settings on your website to user that compressor should allow backups to start working.
