• I have moved my website http://www.bestofbritishweddings.co.uk from Godaddy to Fasthosts. I have set up a new database with a new username and ip address. The website and database have been restored to the new locations and initially worked fine. After 20 minutes I got an “error establishing a database connection” message. On investigation, the wp-config file had been replaced with an old version with the old database information. Uploading the new wp-config file restores the website again but after 20 minutes the same thing happens again.

It appears to be a problem linked to Backup WordPress as each time the problem happens, a file is being put into wp-content called backups, which contains the old information. The filename format of this folder is the same format as a filename that is being created by a new installation of the plug in in a foder called uploads.

I have uninstalled an deleted the plugin but this problem is still occurring.

I ever had same problem as you.

Actually we can’t simply copy/paste or backup/restore from a webhost to another. I ever use Drupal, yes Drupal can, but it won’t work on WordPress.

I suggest you to use Duplicator. Ever had some small issues but in most cases there is no problem:

Some suggestions to increase your chances of success (do it before start moving):
    – Disable all plugins (except Duplicator)
    – Switch your theme to WordPress Default
    – Empty caches if you’re using caching plugin.

    Good luck.
