I’m giving another star; the Updraft team contacted me and explained the problem. It broke all my websites in all PHP versions 7.4, 8.1, and 8.3 and WP 7.0 with a line 17 error in the plugin. I sent a link and they blocked it, and the response is even a negative star here… I had to remove the plugin from all the websites I manage. Until today it worked on version 47 on some sites, and it broke the rest. Versions 48 and 49 broke 8 days ago…

  • Hi @netdia,

I am Alex, the Product Manager for All In One Security, and I want to personally apologize for the disruption this caused across the sites you manage. A fatal error hitting multiple client sites at once is exactly the kind of thing that should never happen, and I understand the frustration.

I reviewed the error log you shared, and I want to be transparent about what actually happened, because it is not what it first looks like.

What caused it: the crash was a PHP fatal error, “Class AIOS_Helper not found” on line 17 of wp-security-utility-ip-address.php. This is not a brute-force attack and not a flaw in how the plugin protects your site. It happens when a plugin update does not complete cleanly, so some files get updated while others are left over from the previous version. The mismatched files cannot find the AIOS_Helper class, and PHP halts the site. Server-side caching or OPcache holding on to the old files makes it worse, which is why it broke some sites and left others on version 47 working.

How to fix it permanently (about two minutes per site):
    1) Using FTP or your hosting file manager, go to /wp-content/plugins/ and fully delete the folder named all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall
    2) Download a fresh copy of the latest AIOS version from the official ww.wp.xz.cn plugin page and install it again
    3) Activate it, then clear any server cache and OPcache if your host offers them

Deleting the plugin folder does not erase your settings. Those are stored in your database, so your configuration will still be there after a clean reinstall.

On the support experience: I am sorry the exchange felt discouraging, including the link problem. The ww.wp.xz.cn forums automatically strip or block certain links, which is almost certainly why your link did not come through. That was the forum filtering it, not us rejecting you. As a free user, the fastest place to reach the team is the official AIOS support forum: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/plugin/all-in-one-wp-security-and-firewall/ .

We are taking this seriously and are reviewing our update process so an incomplete update cannot leave a site in this state again. If the clean reinstall does not fully resolve it, reply on the support forum and I will personally make sure it is escalated.

Thank you for sticking with AIOS. We would genuinely like to earn those stars back.

    Best regards,
    Alex
