Bad User Agents

    Hello,

    I have installed your plugin, and have been using the blacklist feature for banning IPs.

    However, I’m looking at the ‘User Agent’ section and wonder if there’s a way to identify bad user agents that should be blocked. Unlike the failed login, which provides an IP and login attempt, there doesn’t appear to be anything that lists bad ‘user agents’ that have been crawling the site, or whatever they do.

    So, how do I identify bad ‘user agents’ that should be blocked? Is there someway to identify them with your plugin?

    I have found a list on Github, apparently of bad-bots, but I have been reluctant to copy and paste the list into the plugin box out of concern for adverse effects. The link is:

    Hi,

    That is a fairly comprehensive list.
    Unfortunately, AIOWPS does not have the ability to detect user agents built in at the moment.
    I use this API: https://developers.whatismybrowser.com/api/

    Thanks for the reply.

    So, I’m not familiar with the API solution you have linked – although I appreciate you sharing that detail and will look into it at some point.

    However, what regarding the list, which you stated is ‘fairly comprehensive’, do you envisage any problems if I were to copy and paste that list into the relevant field for your plugin?

    No, I don’t see a problem with copying and pasting this list.
