Banning host does not seem to work…

Hi,

I have put IP addresses in the “Ban Hosts” under the banned users settings and yet I get those same hosts attempting multiple logins after being added to the banned list. The hosts are still able to make login attempts whether banned using a single IP address or wildcard (I only have wildcard on last octet). The settings are saving fine (htaccess made writable before saving changes and then made unwritable after). Perhaps I am misunderstanding how the banned list work?
