Basic child theme questions

    Hi: New to WordPress…need to know a few things.

    I understand that to make CSS changes that don’t go away during upgrades, one needs to either 1) use custom CSS or 2) use a child theme.

    Question: if I’m already using a child theme (Lifestyle) do I need to worry about this or is it susceptible to upgrade as well?
    Can I re-name Lifestyle to in effect create a “new” child theme?

    question 2: Do php changes to a theme also go away during upgrades?
