I am getting ready to go on a two-month hiking trip and will not be able to take my laptop with me. I need to be able to post on my WordPress travel blog from my iPhone 7 (iOS 10.3.1), with both text and photos from my iPhone.

I installed the Postie plugin and found that when using Gmail, I couldn’t control the uploaded image location, or the featured image choice or orientation. I set up Gmail as directed, and have messed with the Postie settings of both plain text and html. The best luck I had was html. The “Use First Image as Featured Image” set as “Yes” worked, but I wanted to be able to choose the image, for instance the 3rd image in my post.

I purchased the Postie Shortcode addon, but the [pfeatured id=101] shortcode didn’t seem to have any affect at all. Could someone please tell me the basics of using the #img id=1# tag and the [pfeatured id=1] tag. Exactly where do I include it in the HTML email with respect to the location of the images?

Also, if the feature image is taken in portrait mode on my phone, it shows up sideways (landscape) on blog. How do I fix that?

Thanks from a novice WordPress user and brand new Postie user,

Have fun on your trip! Many Postie users use it for exactly this reason.

For an iPhone the best settings are:
    Preferred Text Type: HTML
    Text fallback: Yes

For dealing with featured images I would always attached the featured image first, then set “Include Featured Image in Post” to “No”

Then include whatever images you want including duplicating the one that is used as featured as necessary. (no shortcode needed)

To fix the rotation issue install https://ww.wp.xz.cn/plugins/image-rotation-repair/

Thanks, Wayne. I got the images and feature image working using your recommendations. I also installed the image rotation plugin and that’s fixed as well.

Now the only thing outstanding is me wondering why I spent $29 on the shortcode upgrade, because I still don’t know how to use any of those features (or they just don’t work…).

They do work I promise 🙂

The shortcode addon is the most popular, so if it didn’t work I’d hear about it.

I’m happy to refund your purchase if you no longer want it. Just contact me at [email protected] with proof of purchase.
