    Hi

I am just starting out and am trying to to get my site to show up on google…so i can experiment a bit. My site is a test/development site.

    I loaded Yoast SEO.
    Did basic setup.
Created a snippet for the website home page.

And expected that I would be able to find my site in a direct search for my site name in google..No Luck

I did not have the crawler enabled in WordPress–so I enabled it –no luck

Do I need to have a site map with google —in order for anything to show up?
Must I have a connection to Google Console in order for anything to show up.

Appreciate any startup advice– Just to see “a result” I have looked at tutorials, videos etc—getting a great perspective on the subject–but now I want to do some examples and practical study and can’t get rolling.

    Thanks
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

From an indexation point of view, it’s enough to not add any meta robots tags and Google should be able to index your URL, eventually.

All of the other steps are a great addition and can speed up the process, but they’re not necessarily needed for a testing website.

The assumption that you’ll rank for your website’s name is incorrect, this can vary greatly depending on the competition (if any for the same keyword) and if Google actually considers your website relevant.

If you want to see if Google has indexed your pages and how many of them, you can use this query in Google: site:webscribersoft.com. It will display all of the URLs which Google has indexed for your domain.

If you are new to SEO, we’d recommend starting with this guide.
