BBPress Topic Options not appearing

When I create a new post, under discussion I see the checkbox for ‘Use a bbpress forum topic for comments on this post’ but when checked I do not get the additional options that should show (eg Use an existing topic – OR – Create a new topic forum etc). It also is not creating a topic at all.
