bbPress Topics hidden
-
I have been using UAM on a number of WordPress and bbPress (v2.5.12) powered websites for some years now – its a great plugin! However, there is currently an issue that has forced me to revert to version 1.2.8 of the plugin…
UAM is used to restrict content to specific user groups. This content includes specific Forums defined using bbPress. That is, only specific groups of people are allowed to see and contribute to specific Forums. For example, two Forums are Committee and General. Only members of the Committee can see and contribute to the Committee Forum, whilst any logged in user can see and contribute to the General Forum.
Topics can therefore only be created by people who have membership of the appropriate user group and consequently have access to the Forum in which the Topic thread is started. Next of course are Replies to the thread.
To be clear then, there is a hierarchy: Forum > Topic > Reply. UAM is used to restrict access to user groups at the Forum level.
This has all worked fine for many years, until post version 1.2.8…
The issue with UAM after version 1.2.8 is that user group access to Forum remains fine. However, the Topic is hidden. But Replies to the Topic are not. This creates a weird rendition of a Topic thread where users are shown the Topic they correctly have access to but are not shown the Topic itself, just the Replies!
I trust I have described the issue clearly above – please shout if you need more detail.
Next of course I hope you, GM_Alex, can get to the bottom of the issue and issue a fix so I can get back to using the latest version of the plugin…
