• I have been using UAM on a number of WordPress and bbPress (v2.5.12) powered websites for some years now – its a great plugin! However, there is currently an issue that has forced me to revert to version 1.2.8 of the plugin…

UAM is used to restrict content to specific user groups. This content includes specific Forums defined using bbPress. That is, only specific groups of people are allowed to see and contribute to specific Forums. For example, two Forums are Committee and General. Only members of the Committee can see and contribute to the Committee Forum, whilst any logged in user can see and contribute to the General Forum.

Topics can therefore only be created by people who have membership of the appropriate user group and consequently have access to the Forum in which the Topic thread is started. Next of course are Replies to the thread.

To be clear then, there is a hierarchy: Forum > Topic > Reply. UAM is used to restrict access to user groups at the Forum level.

This has all worked fine for many years, until post version 1.2.8…

The issue with UAM after version 1.2.8 is that user group access to Forum remains fine. However, the Topic is hidden. But Replies to the Topic are not. This creates a weird rendition of a Topic thread where users are shown the Topic they correctly have access to but are not shown the Topic itself, just the Replies!

I trust I have described the issue clearly above – please shout if you need more detail.

Next of course I hope you, GM_Alex, can get to the bottom of the issue and issue a fix so I can get back to using the latest version of the plugin…

Bump … Alex, I see you have responded to other support topics since I posted this – is there any chance you can help resolve this bug please?

Hey sorry, currently I only answer “small” questions because I’m refactoring the plugin. Before I release a new version I will have a look at all open issues to get them fixed with the new release. But the refactoring took some time, my current estimate for the new version is around two weeks, but that depends on my free time. I can only ask you to be patient. Sorry.

    Subscribing…

In case it wasn’t clear in my issue the problem is exactly the same: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/bbpress-topics-are-hidden-if-not-logged-in/

itzalive, yes I wondered if it was the same issue but wasn’t certain so I started a new thread. Sorry for the duplication Alex. However, I guess it just illustrates that there are many users who have the problem! So, being patient and eagerly anticipating the refactored version Alex… If you want to send me an early beta version to test I’d be happy to help.

Your issue isn’t forgotten, but currently I’m working on the new version which takes all my time. Because of the lack of possibilities related to the overview of the WordPress support area for plugin authors I ask you to recreate your issue here: https://github.com/GM-Alex/user-access-manager/issues

So I can fix it for the next release. Please resolve the issue here if you recreated the issue on GitHub and post the link to the new issue. Thank you very much.
