    Hi,

I haven’t upgraded Yoast SEO since 2.3.2, which is the version prior to the Google focus keyword API removal in 2.3.3.

As everything appears to working very well, and surprisingly the Focus keyword facility from Google is still happily working, are there any benefits of upgrading to any of the newer versions? Comments welcomed.

Sometimes i think that from a security point of view a few issues might have been resolved, but everytime i head to this support forum following an update, all i see is problems, and fingers crossed I have none at present, and no conflicts with other plugins.

Unless from a security patch/coding error there is a benefit, i may well stick with the older version that works, but the guys at Yoast do a lot more testing and may suggest otherwise, more comments welcomed.

I also see a lot people stuck with problems, and in many ways dependant of Yoast SEO and seeking support. Which makes me wonder if you actually need Yoast SEO beyond learning what it is meant to do. As once you decide on your focus keyword, write some client interesting text to engage the end user, include an image or images relevant to the topic, and with appropriate keywords/alt txt, include internal and external links to pages and articles releveant to your topic to enhance your user engagemnet, add a relevant call to action, a means of client contact, you have almost added yoast full capabilities by yourself. Add a well written, relevant meta desciption, include h titles, a way of connecting your page material to social and your done.

Yoast won’t get you to stay on page 1, but it can help you to include many of the things search engines require to rank against your competition, but in reality you already know what’s required after having used the software once. I continue to use it mainly for the ease of obtaining/using the Focus keyword suggestions, what do you use Yoast for, as I’m curious to learn and bebefit from other users experiences.

    All comments welcomed, thanks

  • We’re still on 2.3.2 ourselves.

Later versions also introduced an annoying nag screen to both administrators and users, complaining about the use of competing plugins even when the equivalent Yoast functionality was disabled. It’s far from helpful and borders on monopolistic. We’ve since identified a workaround to disable this ‘feature’, but the current 3.0.x releases still have a lot of unpleasant issues which need to be resolved before we would consider moving up. Every time we’ve attempted an upgrade we’ve ended up rolling back to our trusty 2.3.2 backup.

WPTavern has a post on the lessons learned from 3.x but it only touches on a small proportion of the woes experienced with recent builds. Take a look through the support category for a measure of the potential pain.

    Thanks Pixeldyamo, interesting read.

So why do you use Yoast SEO? to increase readership in your software games reviews? Does it make any difference to you, or just help in ease of a reminder what might need to be included on a page, or has the plugin helped you get to the top of the rankings.
