Best way to debug

Contact Form 7 – version 4.2.1
WP-SMTP-MAIL-CONFIG – version 0.1.0

I can send a test email from WP-SMTP-MAIL-CONFIG so email should be working.

Problem: When I click “Submit” on my CF7 form, I get an error message back:
Failed to send your message. Please try later or contact the administrator by another method.
[Message section heading: Sender’s message was failed to send]

Question: Is there a way I can enable logging for CF7 to see exactly what is going on with it? When I enable WP_DEBUG and WP_DEBUG_LOG and then click Submit, I just get a spinning circular arrow that it’s trying to work, but no submission, and I get no debug.log file in wp-content/. So, I’m looking for a way to view more of what is going on if possible.
