I somewhat figured this out… I added a button to the comments loop only visible to the author. I started a different thread now that i’m trying to figure out the next portion. Thanks.
I also had the same problem and was able to get an idea through this thread. Thanks for the info.

Allow a post author to select a best/top/favorite comment.
Also, I need to be able to retrieve the newest 4 best comments/authors.
Has this been developed yet? I’ve looked all over and can’t find a plugin so I’m assuming there isn’t one. Anyone have any good thoughts on how to go about it?
