    I received an email message (quoted below) following an auto-update of WordPress plugins. I am not running a live site, not a development site.
    How do I check this or confirm if the email is an error?

    This debugging email is sent when you are using a development version of WordPress.

    If you think these failures might be due to a bug in WordPress, could you report it?

    You’d have to check in your wp-admin to se what version of WordPress your site is running. From the source code on your site’s login page, it LOOKS like you’re running 5.7.2

    That is indeed very odd and sounds like an error, though not sure how you could have gotten it!
