Beyond lost, looking for help

    I know this isn’t the right place, but I’ve spent my entire morning searching and I cannot make head nor tails of the forums. I’m tired, I’m old, I’m new at this, I just can’t. And to top it off somewhere along the way WordPress has decided my username/email don’t exist, so god knows how I’ve been using the site for the past few months. (Yes, definitely Wp.org, definitely self hosted site.) I’m using Guj.
    The question is, somehow I’ve deleted About and Contact from the header menu; I want them back. (And then, ideally, to link to the pertinent pages I’ve been trying to construct.)
    And if anyone can tell me how to get my username back too, that’d be frelling awesoms. Meanwhile, I need pie.

    I’d love to help you. Lets get you logged in first. The url you provided leads to a page that says “this page cannot be reached” Can you provide another link to your site? I need the url to provide the link to the login page for you in the most direct manner.

    I can’t get the URL provided to work and a search didn’t get me anywhere.

    Could that be a part of the problem?

    I give users the benefit of the doubt JNashHawkins! My best guess is he mistyped his domain name when opening the thread!

    Or is a link to my dashboard appropriate?

    But I didn’t forget my username – I’ve been using it for months – it just stopped working after I logged out this morning.

    Try logging in from https://careerusinterruptus.com/wp-admin
    if you still can not get in you may need to look in the database at the wp_users table and reset the username there then go back to the login page and reset your password once you have updated the username/email address at the database level.

    Thanks for the corrected URL. That is much better. I’m not sure why I didn’t come up with that when I tried spinning your domain name through Google. Maybe I was running low on coffee or something.

    As Davood said try the link above and I’ll provide it here also.

    And I did make sure the link worked up to the input ‘modal’ (the little ‘box thingie’ is what we call it when not acting all professional).

    The database is where your login info resides and the phpMyAdmin program can get you there to where you can fix the original admin (first method in the tutorial above) or else create a new user as in the last method in the same article.

    Is it that the registration for these forums, is different to my usual WP registration?

    Sorry for the delay. I signed off after sending you the instructions of where to try signing in.

    I am not sure what JNashHawkins is suggesting…. it is quite confusing even to me. In any event, to get the contact and about pages back into the menu please follow these steps:

    1) go to Appearance >> Menus in wp-admin.
    2) on that page make sure you are looking at your main navigation menu’s settings and add them by checking the pages on the left and clicking add.
    3) Once they show up on the right side be sure to click the save button on the top/bottom right.
    4) check on the front end to be sure the nav menu has been updated.

    Hi, madgrannynoob: A number of people have responded to your cry from the depths and this response is just to encourage you to not give up! A little over a year ago I was in the same spot where you are, and once I solved the login problems it was pretty plain sailing. One suggestion: I did purchase a couple of Premium addons, particularly for the theme I selected, and that was pretty cheap and helped a lot. Kudos to you and to all the kind folk who have been helping you!

    Thanks GoNenativeUs for the kind words! madgrannynoob, I missed your question about the login here at the wp.org forums… yes, your username here is likely different than the username you use on your own site.
