Bing API key generation bug

    • I am using XML Sitemap Generator v4.1.22, WordPress v6.9.
    • Blog URL: https://quantumink.co.uk
    • Apache, Directadmin, Rocky Linux 9.x

    Looks like I have hit a bug. Every time I click on “update options”, a new Bing API key is generated – as shown here:

    Use IndexNow Protocol to notify Microsoft Bing, Seznam.cz, Naver, and Yandex search engines about updates to your site
    Microsoft Bing API Key: 1403c6440c4842598ca21c45cd0f31d7

    This breaks the automation to send my URLs to IndexNow since the API key file that I have on my blog root becomes invalid.

    Example:

    • Bing/IndexNow key “1403c6440c4842598ca21c45cd0f31d7” is shown in Plugin Settings.
    • I create a file called 1403c6440c4842598ca21c45cd0f31d7.txt in my blog root and add the key to this file.
    • Plugibn works as expected and notifies IndexNow of any new posts I am create.
    • I then go to the plugin setting, make some changes and click on “Update options” button at the bottom of the screen. This action regenerates the Bing API key. So my original <key>.txt file now becomes invalid and IndexNow automation breaks.

    I’m sorry to hear about this trouble. We’ve been working hard on v5, which has much better IndexNow support.
