• Bitnami WordPress stack 4.4.2-1 installed on my Window 7 laptop.

I’ve just installed the above and it’s been working fine so far. I’m using bitnami WordPress stack to learn WP as recommended by Lynda.com.

I’m at the point in my learning where I’m making changes to template files such as ‘single.php’ etc. The problem I’ve started having is changes I make to these files are taking up to a minute to cascade to the web page even though it’s all running on my laptop!
At first it seemed to be fairly quick but now it’s anything from 20secs to a minute. I’ve rebooted, flushed the cached images and files in Chrome, closed the editor in case Notepad++ had some kind of lock on the file. But to no avail.

So I’m beginning to wonder if I wouldn’t be better off just installing a WAMP from scratch and forget about Bitnami. Wondering what other people have done or found to be reliable.

    Thanks

  • Hi GusGF,

That is what I would recommend; install an AMP stack from scratch. I use both XAMPP (without Bitnami) as well as Uniform Server. However the latest US has PHP 7.x so it may not play well with everything just yet.

As a side note, sure hope you are using a child theme to make changes to those template files 🙂

    Cheers!

Yes I am using child theme as I’ve just learnt about them a few days ago, but thanks for the suggestion.
Yes I might just install a WAMP stack myself without bitnami to see how it matches up but would still like to know why there is the delay in bitnami with cascading the changes to the pages.
