• This plugin was really helpful before – fast, clean and effective! But in recent update the way it work has changed drastically. Now the plugin forces you to instal another plugin, which is very questionable to begin with… But most importantly it tries to be a landing page builder instead of simply displaying a maintenance note as it did before.

    Hi @hullukettu,

Thank you for using WP Maintenance Mode plugin and for sharing your feedback with us.

We have made changes in the recent version of the plugin to make the user experience better and give more flexibility in customizing the maintenance page, as you can now use Gutenberg editor or a page builder to customize the page easily and select a pre-created design or create your new custom one.

The extra plugin (Otter) is only needed if users want to use any of the pre-designed templates that are created with the help of this plugin. In case you do not want to use the pre-design templates, you can remove the plugin and continue using WP Maintenance plugin without it.

The last thing is that if you already had the WP Maintenance Mode plugin installed before, you can opt-out of this change after the update of the plugin and keep everything as it was before (You see Migrate button that could be clicked to switch to the new version and you also have a Rollback button after in case you want to switch back).

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your response! In current version there is no way to reject installation of Otter and using default Gutenberg blocks instead. I will gladly update my review rating when this issue is fixed. I don’t see rollback as a viable option as it would mean keeping an outdated plugin installed which is a bad practice for WordPress administration.

    Hi @hullukettu,

Regarding the rollback – I didn’t mean to keep the old plugin version. What I meant is if you were using a previous version of the plugin before and you updated to 2.5.0 or higher, you shouldn’t get the new layout by default, you should see such a notification:
    https://vertis.d.pr/m3wzWT

And even if you decide to migrate and you don’t like the new layout, you can click to Rollback: https://vertis.d.pr/TZWkpo

This does not roll back plugin to the previous version, it only keeps the old configuration panel.

And even with the new version Otter plugin can be uninstalled if you don’t like or don’t need it.

    Thank you for clarifying!

If you update to the new version and migrate to Gutenberg and don’t immediately rollback, then the only way to get back to the old version is to change wpmm_new_look to 0 in the wp_options table (I did this with phpMyAdmin). Seems like there should be an easier way.
