Hi, Thank you great people for a very awesome plugin!
There seems to be a massive (and increasing all the time) amount of referral spam visits hitting my blogs. Those free-buttons & web-seo type referrers.
Does the free version have a way to block those by referrer? And if so, where can I find instructions on how to do this please?
    cheers

    Hi,

There are more or less 20 of those domains blocked by NinjaFirewall (100dollars-seo.com, best-seo-solution.com etc).
If you want to add your own ones, you can write your code to the “.htninja” user configuration file: http://ninjafirewall.com/wordpress/htninja/

OK thank you. I must have not checked something as I am getting hits from 100dollars-seo.com, haven’t checked the other one.
Could you please let me know where to enable that?

It is rule ID 314, which is enabled by default. You can access it from the “Rules Editor” menu.

This is an example of blocked bots in the firewall log:

    15/Jul/15 16:14:05 #8307495 medium 314 185.6.148.16 GET /index.php - Referrer spam - [SERVER:HTTP_REFERER = http://videos-for-your-business.com]
    16/Jul/15 02:07:25 #6559541 medium 314 191.5.165.204 GET /index.php - Referrer spam - [SERVER:HTTP_REFERER = http://success-seo.com/try.php?u=http://xxxxxxxx]

Great, thanks. No idea what is going on then, as it appears this rule is already enabled but 100dollars-seo.com is still getting thru. Thank you for your time, most appreciated.

    That is strange indeed.
Where do you see that it is still hitting your site? In your HTTP logs?

In the wordpress dashboard widgets, some I use Google anlytics & other sites use Clicky.
    Here are from Google anlytics:

Maybe they hit Google analytics server directly, not your server?

    See this discussion: https://ww.wp.xz.cn/support/topic/blocked-country-but-not-showing-in-the-logs
Although this is about country blocking (available in the WP+ Edition only), it shows that some bots do not connect to your site but to the Google server instead, using your ID and website referrer.

OK will check that out. Thank you very much 🙂
