I have a simple web site with a few static pages and one “post” page where announcements are posted. wp-members is correctly blocking the static pages, but not the announcement page. I have read the documentation on why posts may not be blocked without additional work, but I’m confused – if posts are not blocked, then what does the “block posts” setting do on the settings page? Does that setting only apply to the advanced version of the plugin, or does it have any effect with the regular plugin?

A “posts page” is not actually a “page” in the WordPress sense of the term. Instead, it displays a list of posts just like any other archive template.

If you have posts that you do not want to have displayed at all (i.e. not showing in an archive template), then set them to be “hidden”. “Hidden” can’t be used as a general setting for posts, but it can be set for posts individually either via the post editor or the bulk edit menu on the Posts > All Posts screen.
