Blockquote not working for non-admin

Hi, I have this problem:

If I use

> blockquote

while I’m logged in as non-admin user, the > is being converted in the respective html entity.

It seems like the kses filter strips it out.
How can I solve this issue? It prevents my users to fully use the Markdown potential. 🙂
