Blog Page Error

On trying to set a blog page for this site, none of the posts are displaying, and I sometimes get this error.

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘*’ in /home/content/81/8094581/html/wp-content/themes/custom-community/index.php on line 59

I don’t see any * on that line in the index.php file, and it hasn’t been modified – it is the latest for this theme.
