• Hello,
I updated one of my sites to WordPress 6.7.2, but there’s an issue: the posts only retain their categories if I save them twice. I tried deactivating almost all plugins and using the Twenty Twenty-Three theme to troubleshoot, but the problem still persists. If I save the post the first time, the category isn’t saved; if I reselect the category and save again, then it is. Any advice?

    Thanks

“Almost all” means whatever was left active is possibly the culprit. Anyone with a plain vanilla installation would be able to assign categories without needing to redo it every time.

If you’re concerned about how complete deactivation would impact other site visitors, use the Health Check and Troubleshooting plugin. Its troubleshooting mode will deactivate all plugins for your view only. All others will continue to see your normal site.

That said, I suspect a remaining active plugin might only indirectly be the cause. The fact that retrying is successful indicates something is taxing your server’s resources. The lack of adequate resource would be the root cause. Certain plugins can heavily tax limited server resources. Your options are to either do without the plugin or to obtain more server resource.
