blog.txt gallery shortcode vs. wordpress gallery

Hi. I don’t understand the relationship between the blog.txt gallery shortcode and the wordpress gallery feature. I understand that the wordpress gallery implementation is new so maybe the glog.txt feature predates it. Just a guess.

I have commented out the gallery shortcode functions in the function.php file and my galleries continue to work so maybe they use the same tags?

If someone can explain to me how or if these work together I’d appreciate it.
