Bluehost Errors
-
I have a WordPress.com page and started using Bluehost for ww.wp.xz.cn and wanted to transfer my site over. I am having so many loading issues, my SSL certificate was finally correct after contacting Bluehost 4x. But when I try to load my sites, about 65% of the time it goes to an error page or it doesn’t even load. Like when I try to preview a blog post, it will not load. Anyone else have issues with Bluehost? Or what could be happening? It’s incredibly frustrating. I can’t use all the basic features – like a blog preview – and it’s taking so much longer reloading pages over and over. I have also cleared out all of my cache. Any help is appreciated.

The standard procedure to troubleshoot issues like this is to check your webserver’s error logs to see what’s going on behind the scenes. If that doesn’t show much, you can also turn on WordPress debugging: https://developer.ww.wp.xz.cn/advanced-administration/debug/debug-wordpress/
But, frankly, if a host isn’t meeting your expectations, find another host. Hearing other people’s frustrations and horror stories isn’t going to help you much.
I don’t know what’s the underlying cause of your issues, but I hope you understood what you were trading when you moved from managed hosting (done for you at a higher cost) to self-hosting (do-it-yourself at a lower cost). Anyone who tells you you can’t install plugins at WordPress.com at all is at least ten years behind the times.
And when it comes to hosting, you may not always get what you pay for: but you surely will –not– get what you didn’t pay for. Infrastructure may be cheap these days, but highly skilled people who know what they’re doing aren’t cheap.
Good luck!

Migrating from WordPress.com to Bluehost can already be tricky, and adding these loading issues on top of it is super frustrating. There could be a few common issues that would potentially cause the slow load times and errors. We don’t have a lot to go off of but here are few things you can try before reaching out to our support team:
- DNS Propagation: If you just transferred from WordPress.com, the DNS might still be propagating. Which can cause intermittent errors while it is still syncing up across servers. I highly recommend checking DNS propagation with a 3rd party tool like WhatsMyDNS.
- PHP & Timeout Issues: Kindly check your PHP settings, especially max_execution_time and memory_limit. Sometimes these settings are too low for WordPress, which leading errors. You can adjust it through Bluehost’s cPanel under the MultiPHP INI Editor. You may try setting max_execution_time to 120 seconds and memory_limit to at least 256MB.
- Caching problems: Kindly clear your cache and cookies because caching can be a likely culprit when sites don’t load properly. You can also try another browser
- Plugin Conflicts: I highly recommend disabling all plugins and seeing if the problem still persists, If it’s working fine, try to reactivate them one by one to see the culprit. Keep in mind excessive plugins may also cause issues.
- Optimize your database, which is sometimes a heavy database can cause the slowness of your website.
- Reset Perma Links: Often times when migrating the references in your database will no longer match up and return errors on links. This can typically be resolved by resetting permalinks in the WordPress dashboard.
If all else fails, please reach out to our support team via phone or chat and we would be happy to help further.
Update: I have resolved this issue by cancelling Bluehost services.
Hi there,
- DNS Propagation: If you just transferred from WordPress.com, the DNS might still be propagating. Which can cause intermittent errors while it is still syncing up across servers. I highly recommend checking DNS propagation with a 3rd party tool like WhatsMyDNS.
I actually haven’t been able to migrate anything. It keeps giving me an error message. So I figured I’d just start from zero and figure out the migration later. But it still gives me issues.
2. PHP & Timeout Issues: Kindly check your PHP settings, especially max_execution_time and memory_limit. Sometimes these settings are too low for WordPress, which leading errors. You can adjust it through Bluehost’s cPanel under the MultiPHP INI Editor. You may try setting max_execution_time to 120 seconds and memory_limit to at least 256MB.
Tried clicking on “Core” in the PHP settings and it gave me an error page. (Attached)
3. Caching problems: Kindly clear your cache and cookies because caching can be a likely culprit when sites don’t load properly. You can also try another browser
I have cleared my cache and cookies and tried another browser. Working off Google Chrome and Safari.
4. Plugin Conflicts: I highly recommend disabling all plugins and seeing if the problem still persists, If it’s working fine, try to reactivate them one by one to see the culprit. Keep in mind excessive plugins may also cause issues.
My issues were before I downloaded and activated any plugins.
5. Optimize your database, which is sometimes a heavy database can cause the slowness of your website.
It’s a brand new website, so I assume there is no database to optimize?
6. Reset Perma Links: Often times when migrating the references in your database will no longer match up and return errors on links. This can typically be resolved by resetting permalinks in the WordPress dashboard.
Have not migrated yet.
If all else fails, please reach out to our support team via phone or chat and we would be happy to help further.
I have chatted/talked on the phone with support team at least 4x. Three times it was just to get the SSL Certificate working properly, which I still brought up I had the loading issues and those were not resolved.
