You can also set your blog to require users to be registered and logged in to post a comment, that will make it difficult for spam bots to drop links on you.
Thanks for the idea. But it’s the registration process itself that is being abused and I don’t want to make leaving a legitimate comment difficult. I’m using wp-spamfree plugin that works well in keeping the comments section clean. I used to have issues there too.

Are they a threat in some important way? Is there a way to block comments from this host?
