Bot Registrations

Long hot – but I was hoping someone may know wth is going on with this site.
One of our clients sites starting getting a bunch of bot registrations. The “Anyone can register” box is unchecked, and was never checked on this site. I tried various plugins that were supposed to help shut down any errant registration forms. I tried code in .htaccess to redirect anyone accessing the registration form to an error page. I installed the Bad Bots plugin to try and slow things down. I installed captcha for the forms in hopes that it would stop bots who were somehow accessing the registration from being able to actually submit. We still kept getting registrations – I’m guessing over 300 at this point.
Has anyone seen this happen before? Am I missing something that might help? HOW are they even accessing the registration form at this point?
