We’ve been using jetpack for our galleries on https://directorsnotes.com for years without any trouble, however I’ve noticed over the last week or so that some of the gallery images in new posts are coming up broken and are linking out to https://i0.wp.com/ addresses which resolve in a “We cannot complete this request, remote data could not be fetched” error page. Renaming and reuploading the affected images seems to work but looking through our archive I can see that this issue is also affecting old posts which have been perfectly fine for years!

We have never turned on “Enable site accelerator” or any of the Jetpack performance options so why is this happening, especially in our archive? We have over 5.5K posts on the site with the vast majority featuring at least one instance (or more) Jetpack galleries!!!

Hello @marbelle

I see that your site is behind Cloudflare (a CDN and DDoS protection service), which may be contributing to this issue.

Could you try pausing Cloudflare as described here, please?

These steps will help to ensure that your site is optimized to work well with Cloudflare:

After you’ve made the changes, clear the Cloudflare and your website cache (if you have any cache plugins installed) and try again to see if the issue persists.

Hello again,

I’ve been doing an audit of our website and it appears that the broken images in Jetpack galleries issue is now present on a large number of the site’s posts both in the archive and for new draft posts that we’ve been preparing to publish – example here https://directorsnotes.com/2022/10/24/victoria-singh-thompson-dont-forget-to-go-home/

This is also happening for numerous posts in the Jetpack Related Posts section – example here https://directorsnotes.com/2022/12/30/sarah-smith-top-ten-2022/

With regards to the broken gallery images, reuploading the affected images with a different file name and rebuilding the gallery sometimes fixes the issue, but on several occasions I’ve had to reupload the affected images multiple times to get them to appear and as we have such a large archive on the site and I have no way of knowing which posts are affected or not, this isn’t a feasible solution.

I followed your Cloudflare instructions at the time of my original post but that hasn’t solved the issue.
