• Dear Support,

After setting up the Custom page for large screen or the one for mobile, if I want to modify it again after sometimes and click “Save Layout”, I lost all the template and thus, have to start over.

Where this template is stored in the database to avoid doing the same stuff again and again ?

    Thank you.

  • Hi Diego,

    1) Do you have the most recent version of Product Catalog installed? To check this, go to Plugins (in the left menu), then scroll down to “Product Catalog”. It should say Version 4.4.4

    2) Do you click the “Save Layout” button after making changes to the custom page layout?

    Hi,

    Yes to both questions

    Hi Diego,

Could you try adding a blank element somewhere the right side of the custom page layout?

    Hi,

It didn’t work, I lost everything.

Meanwhile, could you please tell me where the layout is stored in the database ?

By the way, I have the feeling that now, the layouts are “Custom Page – Regular” and “Custom Page – Mobile” instead of “Custom Page – Large screen” and “Custom Page – Mobile”.

    Hi Diego,

When you say you “lost everything”, there are no elements there any more on the screen after you save? Or they are there, but not in the order you placed them in? We’ve never before seen it where it just gets rid of all your elements. It sounds like what’s happening is the layout you are trying to make isn’t saving correctly and, when you come back, the elements are all out of place, and not actually lost or reset to default. This could be happening for two reasons:

    1) If you first click the Restore Default, it adds the following to the URL: “Action=UPCP_RestoreDefault”. If you then refresh your page, it will restore to default again. So just make sure you don’t refresh the page after having clicked restore default. (I don’t think this is your issue, but wanted to mention it just to be sure.)

    2) There is JavaScript conflict with something else and the layout is not saving correctly. This is why we suggested the blank element. Other users who were having issues with the layout saving reported this helped to correct the issue. You really do need to make sure to add an element that extends all the way down the right. Then click Save Layout. Then go check your product page.

Thanks for letting us know about the “Custom Page – Regular” and “Custom Page – Large screen” disconnect in the plugin admin. That’s just a type with the new layout. Nothing has changed with the functionality.

All this being said, is there a specific reason you want/need to make use of the custom page layout. If you are experiencing trouble with it, you might be better off using either the tabbed or shop style layout, both of which are responsive and have many more features than the custom layout builder.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your answer.

When I mention “lost everything”, I mean that the product page becomes empty and not slots are present anymore in the product page customization.

Next time, I’ll have a check for 1) but maybe 2) is more likely.

Meanwhile, where this information is stored in the database ? To avoid building again the custom product page ?

    Hi diego999,

It’s not stored in a separate table. It’s stored as an entry in wp_options. The name of the option is UPCP_Product_Page_Serialized and UPCP_Product_Page_Serialized_Mobile for the mobile layout.

    Thank you for your answer.

I tried adding a new field, the same bug happened (even with 4.5) and I lost everything. Fortunately, I save the 2 fields from the database you mentioned and I could rollback.

Do you have any idea besides modifying the serialized object ?

    Thank you

    Hi diego,

At this point, not really. In this case, it sounds like could be a conflict with something else in your install. You could try deactivating all other plugins and then checking to see if the issue still happens. You could also try switching to a default WordPress theme, to see if the conflict is with the theme.

If there is a conflict that is preventing you from using the custom product page, I’d really suggest that you take a look at the tabbed or shop style layouts. They are both responsive and offer features not available with the custom product page, such as the image gallery, displaying videos, custom tabs, social sharing, product inquiry form and more.
