Dear,

We are using this plugin to receive notifications on new / updated pages and posts. If we update a page with an Administrator role, the notification email is triggered. However, if we update the page with another role (default author or custom role), then no notification email is triggered.

Is this a bug? Or how can we resolve this?

    Hi @verhulstvandammevof,
    Thanks for your message.

Can you tell me a bit more about how you’re triggering the notification? Is it using the WP Admin for both user roles or all via the front-end or a combination of front and back-end?

    Hi,

I am not sure if I fully understand the question. I am setting the notification via the back-end > Notifications > Notification for ‘Page Updated’.

Regarding the updating of the page. We go through the wp-admin for both user roles, editing the page in Gutenberg. And publishing the changes.

    Hi @verhulstvandammevof,
    Thanks for clarifying.

I’ve just tested this with two user roles and in both instances, the notification was sent successfully.
Can you tell me what the other User Role is that you’re testing with? If it’s a custom role, you may want to verify the capabilities are set correctly in order to edit the post/page correctly, just in case that’s causing an issue.

I tried it after changing to the default ‘Contributor’ role, and it does not send the notification. It only sends it for admin roles.

Which capabilities are we looking for?

Or can I give access for testing?

    Hi @verhulstvandammevof,
I can’t provide a level of support where I log into your site to test unfortunately, but I can try and help steer you in the right direction.

Have you modified the Contributor role previously at all?
Have you tried with another user role, such as Editor?

    Hello,

I tried with different roles, but still could not find the cause. Publishpress capabilities is installed on the website, so I guess in the past the capabilities of certain roles were modified. Which are used to trigger to email alert?

Hi @verhulstvandammevof,
No capabilities are specific to sending notifications but there may be a capability added or removed that is preventing a contributor from completing an action which in turn is preventing BNFW from working as expected. Unfortunately, there’s no way to know specifically which one but I would recommend looking at the capabilities of a new contributor on a new WordPress site (one that hasn’t previously had PublishPress installed) to see if you can spot any differences between the two.
