Bug: password field readonly

    Hi, it’s me again 🙂
    If you set Appeareance > Button Position > Replace Password field, then on the login page, click “Use password instead” the passwordfield will be revelaed, but in readonly state. I don’t think that is on purpose – on the contrary it is then impossible to login without a passkey.
    On this note of replacing the password field: In my opinion it is preferrable becasue it adds some friction to users who insist on using the password instead of passkey. So please keep the option to replace the password field with the passkey button.
    What I would like to see is to only reveal the password field after the user has been confirmed to be registered on the site. If you do this, then you casn replace the password field completely and instead have a temporary passord sent – i.e. an emailed login link.

    Thank you again for the clear report

    I have reproduced the issue with Appearance → Button position → Replace password field. When clicking “Use password instead”, the password field appeared but could not be edited. That was not intentional.

    The cause is an interaction with WordPress core: its login script disables the password field while it is hidden, and my plugin was not re-enabling it when the field was shown again. That is why it looked read-only.

    This is fixed in Authentry 1.1.1. Please update the plugin to 1.1.1, after updating, “Use password instead” should reveal a fully editable password field so users can sign in normally.

    I also appreciate your broader suggestion, verifying that the username/email belongs to a registered account first, and then offering an emailed one-time login link instead of showing the password field. That is a thoughtful enhancement and something I’m considering for a future release.
