    Hello,

Everything works great except the bulk image optimize. My site has 27,000 images, and I wanted to get a jump start by at least optimizing the images on the first several shop pages. However, every time I run bulk optimize, it says 1 image was compressed and to try again later.

I’ve read other threads here with the same issue and they were told it’s an issue with smush.

    1. If I can’t do bulk optimization, my question is how do all my site’s images get compressed eventually?
    2. I have auto optimize new images enabled which states it runs in the background and will start within an hour. Does this mean all 27000 images will be optimized? Or only newly uploaded images?
    3. If this is a premium feature, I’ll gladly pay!

Thank you in advance for any help.

    Hi!
For new images added after installing WPO, they will be automatically compressed. To prevent upload delays, compression is carried out as a background task, so it is not instant.
However, for pre-existing images, you need to mark and compress them at WPO > Images > Compress images > Uncompressed images like you’ve likely done. Sometimes, compression may be delayed if the compressions server (reSmush) is overloaded, so you may have to try again later.

Let us know if you have further questions.

    Regards.

Thank you for the quick reply!

I want to make sure I understand.
    1. All newly uploaded images will be automatically compressed in the background.
    2. For all my pre-existing images, I have to select “all” and mark them as not compressed so they’ll be added to the background task?

Here’s the problem: we have literally 27,000 images that need to be compressed. (I can likely get this figure down by purchasing the premium plugin so I can delete orphaned and unused images…) I’m not sure if those will be added to the background task or not? My understanding was that for pre-existing images, I have to manually bulk select and mark them for compression.

If smush is overloaded and the compression fails, do I have to manually mark the skipped ones as “uncompressed” before I try again?

Sorry if I’m being dense here!

    Hi @sbdermaceuticals

I understand that compressing thousands of images at once is best done as background process. We will try to add this feature in future release

Currently in premium version, you can bulk compress images from Media Library itself, and can use batch process as Media Library already has pagination. Also, you can filter by compressed/uncompressed images from that screen

    Thank you.

So with premium, would I still get the warning due to smush being busy? I would like to get premium anyway for the other features, but need some way to get the bulk of images compressed (after deleting the unused ones in premium.)

@sbdermaceuticals At this moment, yes, you’ll get warning if you try to compress 1000s of images at once. But with batch process, you’ll be fine.

That said, I’ll make this a priority in our development process.

Thank you for the reply. I’ll give the premium version a try and write back if I encounter any issues with the “batch process.” I wasn’t trying to do 1000s of images at once, more like 100 images at a time.
