Hi Jeff, hope you are doing well and things are good.

Running a site using IP access only and noticed this:

System Info -> Advanced Info: Display advanced server information
    – when enabled makes URL call to example.com on WP Dashboard page

I believe that you, like me, use Query Monitor as it was that which brought it to my attention. Maybe not a bug per se but no need to make unneeded URL calls either. I bring it to your attention to do with as you will.

All the best and keep on rocking with your excellent plugins.

    Rob

Hi Rob, thanks for reporting. I *think* it’s intentional but will take a closer look anyway for the next update. Either way no worries as example.com is specifically designed for developers to make test calls and such. Will report back with further info once I can dig in.

Hey Rob, thank you for your patience with this. The call to example.com is intentional and used to make a quick test of wp_remote_post(). As you noticed it’s only called when the Advanced option is enabled for System Info widget. One way to avoid the extra HTTP request to example.com is to just roll with System Info set to basic instead of advanced. The advanced display runs a bunch of in-depth tests/logic, and really is meant to be used only when deeper inspection or information is needed. So just rolling with basic infos for everyday use would be my advice. Let me know if you think a way to disable the external request is warranted, I would be happy to implement something.
