Can Airbnb like be built using WordPress?

    As the number of user increases, the response rate decrease. The performance depends on software design, server, etc…, but this question is specifically on WordPress.

    How well can WordPress handle and scale the requirements of a website similar to Airbnb? How WordPress’s performance compare to a custom stack (such as PHP, HTML/CSS/JavaScript)? Someone told me DO NOT use WordPress since

    1. the plugin will slow down response rate

    2. it will not scale well with heavy database query, user accounts, etc…
