Can I create plugin name differently from plugin_basename?

I am writing a plugin, the plugin name is ABC, the plugin dir is XYZ. I can activate the plugin. Since it’s still under developing, I don’t know if it’s going to full working or not. The next step I will write some functions to hook up with activation and deactivation process which need to identify whether this plugin is activating or deactivating. Will this name difference make trouble? How to avoid?
