Can not backup error messages

Have been running my wordpress site for a while now and have recently got this message when i try to backup and update:
Warning: fopen(D:/walkingforward.co.uk/wwwroot/wp-content/backup/.htaccess) [function.fopen.php]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in D:\walkingforward.co.uk\wwwroot\wp-content\plugins\backupwordpress\functions.php on line 377
Cannot open file (D:/walkingforward.co.uk/wwwroot/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)
Warning: fwrite(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in D:\walkingforward.co.uk\wwwroot\wp-content\plugins\backupwordpress\functions.php on line 381
Cannot write to file (D:/walkingforward.co.uk/wwwroot/wp-content/backup/.htaccess)
Warning: fclose(): supplied argument is not a valid stream resource in D:\walkingforward.co.uk\wwwroot\wp-content\plugins\backupwordpress\functions.php on line 385wordpress during one error message told me to delete and recreate the folder backup-e7cc4 which i did but it had no effect.
Any ideas would be most welcome as i’m at my wits end…
