Can NOT Edit Posts? Why?

So when people join my site, I make them a “author”. And when they go to add a post, they can publish it, but once they publish it, they can NOT edit it again, ever. they ca not make any changes. They are supposed to be able to edit them right? Why is this, how can i fix it?
