A couple of nonessential features depends on .htaccess files, so you should not worry about that. On the other hand, the flawed way how WordPress uses its folders and handles access to executable code on the websites implies using .htaccess to harden the security of a website. That means if your hosting platform provides an additional security measure to protect files and folders, not having .htaccess files is OK. Otherwise, I would go with a full-fledged server instead. Simply put, a combination of a bare-minimum, not protected web server without .htaccess files and WordPress is not secure.
