I cannot update the Jetpack plug in which is keeping me from updating my PHP. I’ve tried deactivating and deleting, but Jetpack will not delete. I’ve tried deleting from the FTP also, but it won’t delete out of the file manger either. I’m not sure where the root is to remove it so I can reinstall. I’m not particularly good at coding, and am a volunteer so this is all a little overwhelming.

  • I’m also having trouble updating Jetpack
    I’m getting this:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC “-//IETF//DTD HTML 2.0//EN”> 504 Gateway Timeout Gateway Timeout The gateway did not receive a timely response from the upstream server or application.

I’m also getting the 504 message. and then it crashes my site for about 10 minutes. It’s keeping me from doing important updates on the site.

    Hi there, @flint-scottish,

Thanks for your patience and for bearing with us; we’re working on a backlog of support requests at this time, and we generally answer in the order received.

Do you still have issues updating Jetpack? Usually, 504 errors are rather related to server hiccups than plugin’s. Can you let us know if you need further help?

@bettyf same as above in your case too – let us know if you still need help!

Hey @flint-scottish, sure thing, no problem.

We may need to investigate the errors triggered by the update attempts. Can you share them here? If you prefer to share them privately to avoid showing potentially sensitive data, you can also contact us via the contact form. If you choose to reach out directly, please include a link to this thread.

I’d like also to try again to delete the Jetpack plugin entirely, update PHP and try a new plugin installation/connection.

To remove Jetpack, you can FTP into your site and delete the folder wp-content/plugins/jetpack. If you get errors while doing it, please share it with us.

Let me know how you get on.

The only info that pops up is the “Bad Gateway”. I’m unable to delete the plug in from the WP or through my FTP Manager.

    Hey @flint-scottish,

Can you reach out to your hosting provider about that? I highly suspect that’s a glitch happening on their end.

    Keep us posted!

    Hey @flint-scottish,

Do you have updates about that? We usually close inactive threads after one week of no movement, but we want to make sure we’re all set before marking it as solved. Thanks!
