Cannot access Date Field with keyboard

The date field is set as follows:

The formatting of the date using date-format works fine, as this a UK website.
When using the form fields can be completed using the keyboard, tabbing between fields. A the Date field, keyboard entries are ignored, with nothing entering the field. The only key that works is the tab key to get to the next field. However, clicking with the mouse opens up the date picker which works fine. So if a user want to just type in a date, they cannot.
There must be a way to enter text directly, any idea how this can work please?
The CF7 documentation re date fields does not include the date-format statement, it needs to for non-US users.

When using date-format, CF& appears to ignore the placeholder “*Required Date dd/mm/yy” part of the shortcode.In Chrome and Firefox, I can directly edit.
It edge the only key that works is the enter key to access the date picker.I have also removed the date-format:dd/mm/yy part of the shortcode, and it appears now not to be making any difference – it used to do.
CF7 ignores the placeholder command for a date field in all browsers, this is not helpful, is there a solution for this?
So I am now confused with the date field and UK formatting for input.
It seems CF7 is taking the date format from the regional settings of the device, but I am only guessing – is it doing this or not?It would be helpful for the CF7 date page in the documentation to be much clearer about all this.
