What did you do before this issue happened?

    Hi,

    Thanks for replying so quickly!

I hadn’t actually been on the site for a few days as an administrator and the site was working OK.

I haven’t done anything different than I would usually do over the last month or so, simply added a few posts and played around with a few different plug-ins.

    Thanks,

    Adam

try Enabling debugging and post the results.

You could also try using SFTP or your hosting control panel file manager to temporarily rename the plugins folder, to something like wp-content\x-plugins. This will disable all plugins. If you are then able to login you will know the problem is with a plugin.

Thanks both of you for your replies.

@t-p – Thanks for the information page you sent. It seems to be relevant to what I am seeing on my site but in honesty it doesn’t make any sense to me. I will try reading it a bit more thoroughly and seeing if I can make any sense of it at all.

@acstudent – Thanks for your help. I saw another forum post with a similar problem to my own. Another user had given a similar solution as the one you suggested and it seemed to fix the problem. I have tried this however I cannot seem to access wordpress through my web hosting control panel. I use freeola as my web hosting, and on the control panel I cab only find to update wordpress, not to actually log in at all. If you could provide any more help on how to do this I would really appreciate it. If not I think I will ring freeola tomorrow and ask them to help me do that.

    Thanks,

    Adam

Hi Adam, you can’t actually log into WP from your CP. In your CP, look for something called “File Manager” or similar. You should be able to use the file manager to rename the plugin directory.

Before applying a solution, it’s helpful to diagnose the issue.

Enabling debugging as suggested above helps to do that.

    Hi to both of you.

I have contacted Freeola Support who have diagnosed the issue as being a problem with a plug-in called easy digital downloads. There was some code of some sort causing a virus (or something like that). The site is now fixed though.

Thank you for your help, it is really appreciated.
